FE Exam Structure

The FE exam contains 180 multiple-choice questions and is divided into a four hour morning session (120 questions) and a four hour afternoon session (60 questions). You will be provided an FE Supplied-Reference Handbook on exam day. The exam lasts eight hours in total. The morning session is the same for everyone. It consists of 12 topic areas: Mathematics, Engineering Probability and Statistics, Chemistry, Computers, Ethics and Business Practices, Engineering Economics, Engineering Mechanics (Statics & Dynamics), Strength of Materials, Material Properties, Fluid Mechanics, Electricity & Magnetism, and Thermodynamics. For the afternoon session, you will be asked to pick the discipline that best corresponds to your undergraduate degree: Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, Mechanical, Other Disciplines.
